Danyal demands transparent probe into PIMS nursery deaths

ISLAMABAD, Aug 28 (APP): Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhary on Friday called for a transparent investigation into the PIMS nursery fire that claimed the lives of 14 newborns, stressing that those found responsible for negligence must face action under the law.

He made the remarks while chairing a meeting of the Advisory Council of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights at the SDGs Secretariat in Islamabad, where lawmakers also called for stricter fire safety and emergency measures in hospitals, particularly neonatal nurseries.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Amjad Ali Khan, Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, Farah Naz Akbar, Shaista Khan, Zeb Jaffar, Asia Naz Tanoli, Kiran Haider and Syeda Amina Batool.

The Advisory Council expressed deep grief over the deaths of the newborns in the PIMS nursery fire and stressed the need for a transparent investigation to establish the facts and determine responsibility for any negligence or lapse.

The participants called for strict implementation of fire safety protocols and emergency preparedness measures in hospitals, particularly facilities caring for newborns and other vulnerable children.

A resolution concerning the PIMS tragedy was also presented in the National Assembly. It expressed profound grief over the deaths and called for a transparent investigation, identification of those responsible and action in accordance with the law.

Mr Chaudhary said no compromise could be made on the safety and lives of children.

 He stressed that establishing the facts through a transparent investigation was essential so that those found guilty of negligence or dereliction of duty could be proceeded against under the law.

He said ensuring an effective system for the protection and rights of children remained among the key priorities of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights.
