D-8 calls for strengthening dialogue, diplomacy to address global challenges
ISLAMABAD, Jun 10 (APP):The Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) on Wednesday emphasized upon the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing contemporary global challenges, saying collective efforts rooted in peace, development and human dignity were essential to building a better future.
In a message shared on D-8 Secretary-General’s official X account on the occasion of the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, he said the world was witnessing turbulence, transformation and rapid technological change while humanity continued to grapple with multiple crises.
He noted that military conflicts, political disputes, widening development gaps, climate emergencies, the weakening of multilateralism and growing deficiencies in global governance had intensified global uncertainties.
He said these challenges were further exacerbated by the erosion of trust, diminishing mutual understanding, increasing cultural and civilizational divides, the spread of misinformation and disinformation, and a disturbing rise in hate speech.
The D-8 stressed that concerted international efforts were required to reverse these adverse trends and promote a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous world.
“Collective endeavors are essential to build a better world founded on the three fundamental pillars of peace, development and human dignity,” he stated.
The message underscored that the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations served as a reminder of the importance of recognizing the diversity of civilizations and promoting dialogue, mutual respect, tolerance and global solidarity.
The D-8 Secretary-General emphasized that dialogue among nations and cultures remained the most effective path toward addressing shared global challenges and fostering understanding among peoples.
Reaffirming the organization’s commitment to these principles, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood said the D-8 supported all sincere efforts aimed at promoting peace with justice and fostering a culture of dialogue and cooperation.
The organization reiterated that strengthening intercultural understanding and constructive engagement was indispensable for achieving sustainable peace and advancing collective well-being in an increasingly interconnected world.
