LAHORE, Jan 08 (APP):An accountability court on Thursday summoned former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and other accused for re-framing of charges in a corruption and kickbacks reference related to Gujrat development projects.
Accountability Court Judge Rana Muhammad Arif conducted the proceedings. Former principal secretary to chief minister Punjab Muhammad Khan Bhatti, along with other co-accused, appeared before the court.
During the proceedings, copies of the supplementary reference were provided to the two new accused.
The court noted that charges would be framed afresh against all accused due to the inclusion of two newly nominated accused, who were previously declared proclaimed offenders.
The court observed that Parvez Elahi’s presence is necessary for the purpose of framing charges.
The court also sought arguments on an application challenging the confiscation of assets of proclaimed offender Moonis Elahi.
The judge questioned whether an application filed on behalf of a proclaimed offender was maintainable. Lawyers sought time to present arguments on the application filed by Moonis Elahi’s mother, Qaisra Elahi, who has challenged the asset confiscation proceedings.
Copies of the relevant documents were also provided to Parvez Elahi’s representative, Mukhtiar Ahmed Ranjha.
Subsequently, the court adjourned further hearing of the reference until January 15.
Parvez Elahi and other accused face allegations of receiving kickbacks and bribes in development projects. NAB has filed the reference in the matter, and the accountability court has already framed charges against Parvez Elahi and the co-accused.
