ISLAMABAD, Dec 08 (APP): The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad on Monday postponed proceedings in the diplomatic passport case involving former Azad Jammu and Kashmir prime minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, as his plea to shift the case stalled further progress.
Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shehzad Gondal took up the matter, which has been pending since the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) registered a complaint against Ilyas.
The hearing, however, saw no major development. According to court officials, Ilyas has moved a request seeking transfer of the case to another court. Due to this application, the scheduled proceedings could not move forward.
The magistrate noted that the transfer plea must be decided before the trial can progress. With the transfer request still pending, the court announced a new date for the next hearing.
During the proceedings, the court confirmed that the arrest warrants issued earlier for Sardar Tanveer Ilyas will remain in place.
The warrants had been issued in connection with the FIA’s case accusing the former AJK premier of using or obtaining a diplomatic passport without authorization. After reviewing the situation, the court adjourned the hearing until December 18.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, who previously served as the prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, has yet to appear before the court despite the outstanding warrants.
