Court issues arrest warrants over witness absence in Rizwana torture case

ISLAMABAD, Feb 11 (APP): The lower court of Islamabad on Wednesday took strict action in the case involving alleged torture of minor domestic worker Rizwana, after repeated failure of prosecution witnesses to appear before the court.
The court issued arrest warrants against several government employees who are listed as witnesses, warning that the trial cannot move forward without their presence.
Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti heard the case.
During the hearing, the court noted that witnesses had been summoned multiple times but failed to attend without valid reason.
The court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Women Medical Officer Maryam Fatima of DHQ Hospital Sargodha. Non-bailable warrants were also issued for Sub-Inspectors Muhammad Nawaz, Qasim Zia, Ejaz Ahmed, and Muhammad Hanif. Similar warrants were issued for Rescue 1122 Sargodha medical emergency technician Munir Abbas and police official Kanwal, posted at the police service counter of DHQ Sargodha.
Arrest warrants were further issued for police officials Shafiq Hussain, Sajjad Hussain, and Shamrez Iqbal.
The court also ordered the suspension of salaries of all concerned government employees, stating that all of them are witnesses in the Rizwana torture case. The magistrate ruled that continued absence of witnesses left the court with no option but to issue warrants.
Further hearing of the case has been adjourned until February 21.
