ISLAMABAD, Feb 09 (APP): The lower court of Islamabad on Monday approved a three-day physical remand of a suspect arrested for allegedly promoting the narrative of banned outfits through social media platforms.
The case was heard at court, where investigators presented the accused before the court for further inquiry.
Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah presided over the hearing. During the proceedings, the investigation officer requested an 11-day physical remand of the accused, identified as Zafar Iqbal. The court, however, approved a three-day remand to facilitate further investigation.
The investigating officer informed the court that several social media accounts linked to the accused need to be recovered and examined. He stated that the suspect allegedly shared false content against state institutions through different online platforms. According to the investigation, the accused used social media handles to provoke people and spread content aimed at creating unrest.
The court was told that digital evidence is required to trace the source and spread of the content shared by the accused. Investigators maintained that custody is necessary to complete the technical process related to the recovery of data.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has already registered a case against the accused under relevant laws. After hearing the arguments, the court approved the physical remand and directed the investigation team to present progress in the next hearing.
