ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP):The District & Sessions Court of Islamabad on Monday postponed the hearing of a defamation case filed against former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, extending the proceedings untill January 24.
The case involves a compensation claim of Rs1 billion filed by Sheikh Waqas Akram over alleged damage to his reputation.
The matter was heard by Additional District and Sessions Judge Sohail Sheikh. During the hearing, the defence submitted a written reply on behalf of Fawad Chaudhry. After receiving the response, the court fixed January 24 for the next hearing and adjourned further proceedings.
According to court records, Sheikh Waqas Akram has filed a civil defamation suit seeking damages amounting to Rs1 billion. The petition states that statements attributed to Fawad Chaudhry caused harm to his standing. The claim asks the court to declare the statements defamatory and to order financial compensation.
The court did not issue any further directions during the hearing. Both parties were present through their legal representatives. The judge noted the submission of the reply and directed that arguments and further steps would be taken at the next hearing.
The case will now resume on January 24, when the court is expected to review the reply and decide the future course of action in the defamation claim.
