Construction of 86,323 housing units at Rs463 bln cost underway; PM told

ISLAMABAD, Sep 9 (APP):Prime Minister Imran Khan was told on Thursday that the Ministry of Housing and Works was constructing 86,323 housing units at a total cost of Rs463 billion.

Besides creating over 200,000 employment opportunities, boom in construction sector across the country under various projects would also create economic activities worth over Rs2.314 trillion, he was told.

The prime minister was presiding over a meeting of the National Coordination Committee for Housing, Construction and Development here.

He was briefed about the progress of various housing projects under the Ministry of Housing and Works.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Dr Shehbaz Gill, State Bank of Pakistan Governor Raza Baqir, Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority Chairman Lt Gen (R) Anwar Ali Haider and other senior officers were in attendance.

The prime minister was also briefed about the ongoing cadastral mapping exercise in Lahore and told that the project was on track and would be completed by November 15, this year.

The prime minister directed the relevant authorities to focus on early completion of land record digitization in Lahore so that common man could get relief in terms of land mafia and encroachments.

He reiterated vertical housing in the shape of high-rise buildings was the government’s priority.

This would not only cater to the housing needs of the growing population, but would also ensure the effective utilization of urban lands as per digitalized cadastral mapping, he added.
