ISLAMABAD, Sept 12 (APP): The Sindh Wildlife Department Monday released all the rare turtles, which were confiscated in Karachi while being smuggled abroad, into the Indus River near Sukkur.

According to a statement issued by the office of the Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Climate Change Rizwan Mehboob, the authorities concerned had made the biggest ever seizure of the rare turtles a couple of days ago.

However, on the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the turtles had been released through coordination of World Wildlife Fund, Sindh Wildlife Department and the Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Climate Change.

The focal person said the government had already finalized its rules under Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species to permanently control such international smuggling those would be notified by next week.
