Confidence of people only way for successful policing: IGP

ISLAMABAD, Feb 19 (APP):Highlighting that community and service oriented policing was the only way to win public confidence, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri said Monday that conciliatory committees would be made more effective to bridge gap between police and people.
Temuri was addressing the members of Neighborhood Watch Committees, Conciliatory Committees and Human Rights Officers at Ramna Police Station. SP Sadar Muhammad Aamir Niazi, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sayed Aziz, SHO Muhammad Irshad Abro were also present.
He said that community policing has three parts as interaction is made in the first phase and community members tell the issues during the second phase while solution of these problems are made collectively during the last stage.
In neighborhood watch committees, he said students, doctors, house wives and notables would be also included.
He said that Islamabad police was very much committed to serve the people and enhance liaison with community through inculcating various friendly measures in order to win public support. The IGP said that developed countries acknowledge the advantages of community policing, adding efforts would be made to establish such services here with the public support.
He said that main purpose of such committees was to monitor the activities around them and inform police in case of any suspicious activity. He assured that name of those given important information will be kept secret and complete coordination will be made with such person.
The IGP said that police is utilizing all available resources for protection to the lives and property of citizens and said that cooperation of community is key to ensure it.
He appealed the members of committees to give suggestions in handling various police related affairs. The IGP thanked all the committees’ members and hoped for enhanced coordination in future to combat anti-social elements.
