ISLAMABAD, Dec 19 (APP): The Senate Standing Committee on
Interior and Narcotics Control was informed on Monday that Commission on Missing Persons had decided 2416 cases while 1276 were pending.
The meeting of the committee was chaired by Senator Rahman Malik here.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Azam Swati, Israr Ullah Zahri, Dr
Jahanzeb Jamaldini, Ch Tanvir Khan attened the meeting.
Head of Commission on Missing Persons, Justice (Retd) Javaid Iqbal briefed the committee and appreciated the efforts of Rahman Malik for empowering the Commission to investigate cases on missing persons.
He said cases of missing persons were in thousands but due to hectic
efforts of the Commission, the number of cases had been reduced.
He said that a total of 350 cases were in the commission.
He told the body that a total of 223 missing persons cases were from Punjab, 654 from KPK, 4 from GB, 309 from Sindh, 53 from FATA, 11 from AJK and 96 from Balochistan.
He said that according to a report, in war against terrorism, a total of 5174 personal of army and oters law enforcement egencies had been martyred.
As many as 14,600 people had been wounded and disabled in the war, he said adding that widows were 2587 and orphans 8911 in number.
He said 60,000 civilians had been killed during this war against terrorism for last five years.
Javaid Iqbal said performance of Federal police in missing persons case was appreciable.
Rahman Malik said missing person was a major issue of country and the body had suggested to regularizing Commission on Missing Persons.
Senator Rahman Malik said that in many cases, uniform of security institutions was used for kidnapping.
He said that India was directly involved in Balochistan as a RAW agent had also been arrested from province.
Indian agent, he said had also accepted his country’s involvement in Balochistan to destabilize Pakistan.
Indian spy agency RAW was involved in the kidnapping cases to defame country’s institutions, he added.
Rahman Malik said that Army, Frontier Constabulry, and other institutions were sacrificing for the security of the country.
“We are supporting Army and law enforcement agencies in war against
the terrorism,” he added.
Rahman Malik also appreciated the action of interior ministry against the land encroacher and drug smugglers in the Quaid-e-Azam University on the recommendations of the senate body on Interior.
He also directed the provincial IGs, Home Secretaries to participate in next meeting with full preparation about the missing persons.
