LAHORE, Jan 04 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the Safe City Project, a unique of its kind in Pakistan and the biggest project in Asia at Qurban Lines, here on Thursday.
After inaugurating Integrated Command, Control and Communication Centre of Punjab Safe Cities Authority, the Chief Minister said, the Punjab government had started Safe City Project for providing a crime-free and peaceful atmosphere to citizens. He said, a huge screen had been installed in Command and Control Center under the project which was the biggest in Asia while 8,000 cameras had been installed at 1700 important points. “The Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication Centre (IC3) will enhance security of lives and property of the citizens of Punjab by employing smart technology and equipping Punjab Police with modern surveillance capability,” he added.
Shehbaz Sharif said, the Safe City Project had been completed in a record period of time adding the project was completed in collaboration with a leading Chinese company Huawei and it was the first project of its kind in Pakistan. He hoped the Chinese company would operate the project as an example of hard work, honesty and transparency.
He said, Punjab was the first province where this kind of project had been inaugurated. He said, those leveling allegations of corruption should also remember transparency in this project. He said recruitment for Safe City Project had been made purely on merit and best training had been imparted. He said youth recruited for the project were witness to the fact that they had been selected on merit and it was hope that they would spare no effort for the success of this project. He said monitoring of different areas was being carried out on the screens set up at Command & Control Center and a vigilant eye would be kept on criminal elements. He said in case of any incident of crime, an alarm would ring which would alert the concerned institution. He said due to this step of the Punjab government, Pakistan would become a safe, peaceful and prosperous country.
Shehbaz Sharif said brave armed forces of Pakistan, police and the people of all segments of society had rendered sacrifices in the war against terrorism and extremism and said the project would play an important role in dealing with this menace.
The Chief Minister announced to start Safe City Project in six other cities of the province including Multan, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Sargodha. He said with the implementation of Safe City Project in seven cities, Punjab would emerge as a safe, prosperous and peaceful province.
He pointed out that work on Orange Line Metro Train was in progress with a pace and soon would be inaugurated.
Shehbaz Sharif further said Safe City Project was of vital importance for curbing extremism, terrorism, crime and the activities of anti-social elements, therefore, there was a need to make every effort for its success.
The project was initiated by the Chief Minister Punjab in May 2016
to make the city safe and had been completed at a cost of Rs 14.52
billion. Fibre optic cable was used in the program and video wall
comprising 203 scanners had been made in the head office for monitoring.
