ISLAMABAD, Jul 21 (APP): Three bodies were received at RHQ, (Regional Headquarter Hospital) Chilas with one injured person under treatment following the sudden flood emergency while tourists stranded at various points were evacuated to safety.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said in a statement that the incident occurred around 3:30 PM when a cloudburst struck the Babusar Road stretch between Jal and Diyung, affecting approximately 7 to 8 kilometers.
The area sustained heavy damage, with 14 to 15 major blockages caused by landslides, debris, and flash floods.
Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police Diamer visited the site and managed to reach the midpoint.
The remaining stretch was inaccessible due to boulder deposits. Transport arranged by Girls Degree College and Police was used to relocate stranded tourists to hotels in Chilas.
Babusar Road remains severely blocked, while the Karakoram Highway (KKH) is also closed at Lal Parhi and Tatha Pani. Between 10 to 15 vehicles are reportedly stuck in nallahs and slide-affected areas.
