ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (APP):Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul has said the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government had initiated Clean and Green Pakistan initiative as per vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to tackle the issue of pollution.
Talking to PTV, she said previous governments had not payed attention to the important issue while millions of trees had been cut to pave way for setting up housing societies.
Zartaj said her ministry would start a campaign across the country to spread awareness among the people regarding importance of clean environment. The youth, celebrities and religious leaders would also be involved in the drive.
The government was going to generate energy from the solid waste management projects, she added.
Media, she said, should also play its role for creating awareness regarding tree plantation, saving water, water reservoirs, saving energy and not spreading garbage in the country.
She said the government would take strict action against the timber mafia.
She said government has launched Ten Billion Trees Tsunami project on the patron of Billion Trees Project Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which would play an important role in tackling the issue of climate change.
