ISLAMABAD, Feb 11 (APP): Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi on Tuesday chaired the 44th meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) of the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) at the Supreme Court.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the Board; Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan; Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Justice Aalia Neelum; Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar; Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court Justice S.M. Attique Shah; Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput; Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Malakhail; Secretary, Ministry of Law and Justice, Muhammad Khashi-ur-Rehman; and Director General of the Federal Judicial Academy Hayat Ali Shah, who also serves as Member/Secretary of the Board.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the Supreme Court, Adviser to the Board of Governors of the FJA, and Additional Secretary Finance Division Fazil Abbasi attended the meeting on special invitation.
Justice Aurangzeb briefed the participants on the functioning of the Academy and presented the agenda items for consideration. The Board deliberated on several matters, including the draft Federal Judicial Academy (Terms and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2026.
The Board also approved proposals relating to the maintenance and repair of the Academy’s infrastructure. The Director General of the Academy presented the Annual Report for 2023–2024, outlining key initiatives, training programmes and institutional developments undertaken during the year.
The Board appreciated the Academy’s continued efforts to strengthen judicial education and enhance the professional capacity of judicial officers across the country. It emphasised the importance of specialised training for judges on the United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards and the Enforcement (Arbitration Agreements and Foreign Arbitral Awards) Act, 2011, to improve understanding and effective implementation of international arbitration frameworks.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Academy’s role as a central institution for judicial training and capacity building in Pakistan.
