ISLAMABAD, Sep 5 (APP):Archbishop of Rawalpindi-Islamabad Dr Joseph Arshad has reaffirmed that the Christian community stands with the Pakistan Armed Forces and is ready to make every sacrifice for the defence, security and sovereignty of the country.
In his message on Defence Day, he said September 6 was a historic day in Pakistan’s history when the armed forces bravely faced a much larger enemy and foiled its designs through courage and sacrifice.
He said Defence Day reminded the nation of the sacrifices of martyrs and ghazis who laid down their lives to protect the country’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
“The nation will always remember and honour the sacrifices of its martyrs with the greatest respect,” he said.
Archbishop Arshad said the day conveyed a lasting message of national unity, solidarity, patriotism and responsibility. He urged the nation to renew its commitment to the country’s development, prosperity, peace and stability.
He said the armed forces and the people of Pakistan had always shown courage and patriotism in defending the country.
The Archbishop said the Christian community had historically played an important role in Pakistan’s defence and rendered valuable services and sacrifices for the country.
“Pakistani Christians have always stood at the forefront whenever the defence of the homeland has been required,” he said, adding that the community would continue to stand by Pakistan.
He said those who sacrificed their lives for Pakistan were national heroes whose sacrifices would continue to inspire future generations.
Archbishop Arshad also prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs and for patience, strength and courage for their bereaved families.
