ISLAMABAD, Jan 27 (APP):A Chinese agricultural technology company with more than a decade of experience in Pakistan is seeking to expand its localised operations through long-term partnerships, with a focus on seed breeding and production to support sustainable agricultural development, a company executive said.
Jin Shao, Manager of the International Department at Anhui SunGu Agritech Co. Ltd, told Wealth Pakistan that the company has been operating in Pakistan for over 12 years and already works with several local partners. He said the next phase of growth would centre on deeper localisation, including breeding and production within Pakistan, which he described as critical for future development.
Jin said the company is engaged in a wide range of seed businesses in Pakistan, including hybrid rice, maize, sunflower, canola and vegetable seeds. It works with partners of varying sizes—from large importers to smaller firms—and supports them equally when cooperation is based on honesty and long-term commitment.
He said the company brings Chinese breeding technologies that can outperform older local seed varieties, helping farmers increase productivity. He said higher yields create opportunities for farmers to earn more, support exports and generate broader benefits for the agricultural economy.
He described the cooperation as a mutually beneficial chain, in which Chinese seed technology supports Pakistani production, while agricultural exports help strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
Jin said agriculture remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s economy, adding that improved seed varieties can also raise living standards by increasing the supply of vegetables and other crops. He noted that higher yields achieved with efficient input use can make everyday food items more affordable for consumers.
He added that the company is also working to improve edible oil quality through canola cultivation and processing, alongside its broader seed initiatives, describing these efforts as multiple cooperation areas at different stages of progress.
Jin said Pakistan’s policy direction encourages local industrial development rather than pure trading, prompting the company to seek partners willing to invest jointly over the long term and share risks. He noted that such long-term planning can be challenging as many companies prefer quick returns. Still, he said China’s experience shows that steady, step-by-step growth delivers better results over time.
He said the company follows a mixed approach to seed supply, with some varieties produced locally in Pakistan and others in China, depending on suitability and maturity. Under Pakistan’s updated seed regulations, he added, the company aims to balance local manufacturing and imports, reflecting its commitment to localisation and compliance with national policy.
Jin said the company remains focused on gradual expansion, deeper localisation and long-term cooperation as it continues to develop its presence in Pakistan’s agricultural sector. He described the recently concluded Pakistan-China Agriculture Investment Conference in Islamabad as a positive starting point for deeper cooperation, while stressing the importance of careful partner selection to ensure sustainable outcomes.
