BEIJING, Dec 16 (APP): China launched a new stereo mapping satellite from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China’s Shanxi Province on Tuesday.
A Long March-4B rocket, carrying the Ziyuan III 04 satellite, blasted off at 11:17 a.m. Beijing Time. It has sent the satellite into preset orbit.
The Ziyuan III 04 satellite, developed by the China Academy of Space Technology, will form a satellite constellation with the in-orbit Ziyuan III 02 and 03 satellites for observation.
Equipped with multiple payloads including stereoscopic mapping camera, multispectral camera and laser altimeter, it will provide high-resolution three-dimensional images. The geometric data will find application in geographic information resource development, natural resource surveys and monitoring, land spatial planning, and natural resource supervision and law enforcement.
The launch marked the 617th flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.
