ISLAMABAD, Oct 05 (APP): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Information Secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan said that teachers were the builders of a nation and the foundation of societal development.
In a message on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, he said promotion of quality education was only possible by addressing the issues faced by teachers, stressing the need for immediate steps to resolve their economic difficulties.
Nadeem Chan called for ensuring timely payment of salaries, allowances and other legitimate rights of teachers, saying their dignity, respect and economic security were the responsibility of the state.
He urged the government to immediately fill vacant teaching posts in public educational institutions and pay special attention to teachers’ professional training and provision of modern educational facilities.
The PPP leader said improvement in the quality of education was not possible without providing teachers with a better working environment.
He called for relieving teachers of non-teaching duties so that they could focus fully on their core responsibility of educating students.
He also called for resolving teachers’ service structure and promotion-related issues on a priority basis.
Nadeem Chan said the PPP had always attached importance to education and protection of teachers’ rights, adding that the welfare of teachers was, in fact, a guarantee for the future of coming generations.
He urged the government to listen to the legitimate demands of teachers and take practical measures for their resolution.
He said a strong education system could not be developed without empowering and ensuring the satisfaction of teachers, adding that addressing their problems and protecting their rights was a collective responsibility.
