Chairperson NCHR calls on CJP

ISLAMABAD, Jul 10 (APP): Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Chairman of the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi, at the Supreme Court of Pakistan here Thursday.

During the meeting, wide range of issues of mutual concern were discussed, with particular focus on strengthening the protection and promotion of human rights. The Chief Justice appreciated the efforts of the NCHR in highlighting rights-based challenges and encouraged continued institutional collaboration between the judiciary and human rights bodies to ensure access to justice for all, especially vulnerable and marginalized segments of the society.

The Chairman NCHR briefed the Chief Justice on the Commission’s ongoing initiatives, policy interventions and monitoring mechanisms related to the implementation of constitutional and legal safeguards for fundamental rights. She also shared key findings from recent reports and emphasized the importance of judicial support in upholding human dignity and the rule of law.

Both sides reaffirmed the need for enhanced coordination among state institutions to address systemic gaps in the human rights protection framework. The Chief Justice underscored the judiciary’s commitment to constitutional values, due process, and the protection of citizens’ fundamental freedoms.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with a shared resolve to work collectively for a more just, inclusive and rights-respecting society.
