Chairman Senate warns of entry-ban to absent minister

ISLAMABAD, Nov 10 (APP): Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani Tuesday warned of restricting entry of a minister, if found absent from proceedings of Upper House of the Parliament in future.
“I am thinking to pass stricture, I am very inclined to restrict entry
of one of the ministers,” he passed the ruling when question-hour session of the House was in progress and nobody was present to answer the queries of lawmakers on different issues related to the Ministry of Water and Power.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed apprised
the Chairman that Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali was scheduled to answer the questions but he was busy in some other important engagement.
“There is nothing important than this House,” he said adding that
two ministers (Full Minister and Minister of State) were appointed so that one of them could ensure presence in the Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Chairman said he just received a letter that the Minister
for Petroleum and Natural Resources would represent the Ministry of Water and Power in absence of its ministers.
Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal Khan
said he was not fully prepared to respond to legislators’ queries pertaining to the Ministry of Water and Power as he got the intimation at the eleventh hour.
Sheikh Aftab requested the Chairman to defer the questions on Water and
Power.
The Chairman said he had already given three warnings on absence of
ministers and “This is the last and final warning, in future, I will not ask anyone, but restrict the entry.”
