ISLAMABAD, Oct 24 (APP): Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry on Monday termed “deplorable” unprovoked Indian firing at border with Pakistan, saying India should rather “act pragmatically” in order to resolve bilateral issues.
Talking to media persons at the book launch here at Quaid e Azam University, the Foreign Secretary said Pakistan respected the 2003 ceasefire with India and never initiated firing.
Aizaz Chaudhry said Pakistan had lodged its protest with India on the recent incident of unprovoked firing at diplomatic level.
He said Pakistan also expected that UNMOGIP (United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan) would soon submit its findings on the incidents with its headquarters.
The Foreign Secretary said Kashmir was a long standing item on Pakistan’s agenda, to which it would continue to extend support.
He said Pakistan expected from the United Nations to play its role in the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the resolutions of its own Security Council.
The Foreign Secretary said Pakistan was in favour of promotion of peace process in Afghanistan. Being the member of Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG), Pakistan was committed to the continuity of peace process, he added.
When asked of reports of a Taliban delegation currently visiting Pakistan for talks, Aizaz Chaudhry said he had no information on that.
Earlier addressing the audience, the Foreign Secretary said the book ‘Basic Facts about the United Nations’ in Urdu language launched by the Quaid e Azam University, would help the common man to understand the UN Charter and its role in international peace and security.
He highlighted the steps and achievements taken by the UN in maintaining international peace at the celebration of 71st anniversary of United Nations.
Aizaz Chaudhry mentioned that Pakistan adhered to the UN’s charter of sovereignty and non intervention and said it always rightfully maintained its commitment to the world body.
He said despite its commitment, Pakistan always suffered heavily by foreign interventions due to non implementation of the principles in their true sense.
He said enormous progress had been made in social economic framework in the UN Charter.
