ISLAMABAD, Sep 26 (APP): The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has retrieved around 750 kanals of acquired land in Sector E-12, removing a longstanding hurdle to the development of the residential sector.
CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf visited the sector on Saturday to review the progress of ongoing development work and was briefed on the retrieval of land that had remained under unauthorised occupation for an extended period.
According to the authority, the recovered land will be used for development in accordance with the approved layout plan. The chairman directed the relevant officials to accelerate work in the retrieved areas while ensuring compliance with approved plans, construction standards and applicable laws.
The visit was attended by the CDA member planning, Islamabad deputy commissioner, director general works, additional commissioners (general and revenue), the relevant assistant commissioner and other officials of the authority and Islamabad administration.
Officials also briefed the chairman on the status of development work, land retrieval and claims submitted by affectees and allottees. They said allotment letters had been issued to claimants whose cases were found eligible after scrutiny and completion of the required legal and procedural formalities.
During the inspection, the CDA identified unauthorised structures and occupation on acquired government land. The authority said it had collected information about the structures, their occupants and individuals allegedly involved in their construction and subsequent rental use.
It said appropriate legal action would be taken against those found involved in unauthorised construction, occupation or commercial use of acquired land after completion of the prescribed legal process.
The CDA said the operation was part of its broader efforts, under the directions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and in coordination with the Islamabad administration, to remove encroachments and protect government land across the capital.
The authority reiterated that genuine claims of affectees would be processed under the law and that the legal rights of eligible claimants would be protected. It also pledged to expedite the resolution of pending claims and development work in the sector.
According to the CDA, residents and allottees welcomed the removal of encroachments and expressed hope that the retrieval of land would help accelerate development in E-12, where progress has long been awaited.
The authority said it aimed to develop the sector into a properly planned residential area in accordance with approved plans and prescribed standards.
