ISLAMABAD, Feb 04 (APP): The Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) Environment Wing on Wednesday launched the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign 2026, setting an ambitious target of planting one million saplings across the federal capital to further enhance its green cover.
The campaign was inaugurated by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who planted a sapling at the Tayyip Erdogan Interchange in Sector F-8.

Senior CDA officials, including Member Administration Talat Mahmood, Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch and the director general environment, along with a large number of schoolchildren, attended the ceremony.
Addressing the participants, Randhawa said the plantation drive would ensure the active participation of civil society, media, educational institutions, the private sector and the general public.

He said the initiative was being implemented in line with the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, with a focus on planting environmentally friendly tree species.
The CDA chairman emphasised that the objective was not only to plant trees but also to ensure their proper care and protection.
He said advanced technologies, including satellite imagery from SUPARCO, would be used to monitor the plantations.
Under the initiative, details of newly planted trees will be recorded through QR codes to enable regular tracking of their age, growth and condition.
Initially, the system is being introduced along major highways, with plans to extend it to older trees as well.
Randhawa said indigenous, fruit-bearing and shade-providing trees would be prioritised under the campaign, adding that environmental expert Rizwan Mehboob had been engaged to provide technical guidance.
He urged citizens to play their part in making the campaign a success, stressing that increasing Islamabad’s green cover was a shared responsibility.
He further announced that stalls would be set up at various locations across the city to distribute saplings among residents.
He also appealed to the public to report any incidents of tree-cutting to the relevant authorities through the helpline, stating that these measures aimed to preserve Islamabad’s status as one of the world’s most beautiful capitals.
