CDA launches Ramazan women’s cricket talent hunt tournament

ISLAMABAD, Feb 24 (APP):The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched the Ramadan Talent Hunt Women’s Cricket Tournament to promote women’s cricket and identify emerging female players from across the country.
Speaking at the inauguration, Randhawa said the tournament, initially planned for four teams, had expanded to six due to strong participation in open trials.
He said the selected players had demonstrated notable talent and were being given equal opportunities to showcase their abilities.
He added that women athletes from various parts of the country, including Islamabad, were taking part in the competition, which aims to encourage sports participation among women.  The chairman also suggested that the Pakistan Cricket Board consider initiating similar talent hunt programmes.
According to CDA officials, prize money for the tournament has been increased from Rs200,000 to Rs600,000.  Randhawa said outstanding players identified through the tournament could later represent the CDA in future sporting events.
Players were selected on merit through open trials, and the opening match of the tournament was played between teams from F-6 and G-9 sectors.
CDA officials said arrangements for the event, including organisational matters and the judging panel, were finalised on professional and merit-based lines. Randhawa reiterated that the authority remained committed to promoting healthy activities and sports in the federal capital.
