ISLAMABAD, Jul 01 (APP): Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Sohail Ashraf on Wednesday joined the “Green Islamabad” tree plantation campaign by planting a chir pine sapling at the green belt of Imarat Downtown on the Islamabad Expressway, as part of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s vision to plant one million trees across the federal capital.

The plantation campaign is aimed at expanding Islamabad’s green cover, improving environmental sustainability and enhancing the city’s natural landscape through large-scale afforestation.

Speaking on the occasion, Sohail Ashraf said tree plantation was essential for protecting the environment, reducing air pollution and preserving the natural beauty of the federal capital.

He said the one-million-tree campaign reflected the government’s commitment to making Islamabad greener, cleaner and more environmentally friendly.

The CDA chairman said the authority was implementing the campaign across the city in line with the directions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

He added that native tree species, compatible with the local ecosystem, were being planted along major roads, in parks, green belts and other open spaces to ensure sustainable growth and long-term environmental benefits.

Sohail Ashraf urged citizens, educational institutions, the private sector and civil society organisations to actively participate in the plantation drive, saying that collective efforts were essential to building a healthier, greener and more climate-resilient Islamabad for future generations.
