Brief relief from heatwave expected over next three days as western disturbance moves in: DG PMD

ISLAMABAD, Jun 10 (APP):Director General PMD Dr. Muhammad Afzal on Wednesday said a western wave will enter the country from June 11 afternoon, resulting in pleasant weather and scattered rain in some regions, while Karachi is expected to remain humid.
While speaking to a local media outlet, PMD Director General Dr. Muhammad Afzal said a western weather system is expected to bring a break from the ongoing heatwave from June 11 to 13. He said relief is likely in various regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Gujranwala, Lahore, parts of Balochistan and Islamabad, where temperatures are expected to decline and isolated rainfall may occur. For Karachi, Dr. Afzal said humid conditions are likely to persist, although sea breezes and winds are expected to provide some respite from the prevailing hot weather.
He said June is typically one of the hottest months of the year and humidity levels generally rise during this period, making weather conditions more uncomfortable.
However, he noted that climate change is increasingly causing unusual and unpredictable weather patterns, resulting in sudden fluctuations in temperatures and rainfall.
He explained that climate change has caused average weather patterns to shift toward more extreme conditions. Scientifically, increased greenhouse gases warm the Earth, disrupting normal atmospheric and ocean systems. This leads to more frequent and intense heatwaves, heavy rainfall, floods, droughts and storms.
Responding to a query, he also advised citizens to take preventive measures to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses. People were urged to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours today which is hotter than previous days.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is currently no chance of rainfall in Karachi this month. This dry spell and humidity are expected to continue.
