Bench, bar can play role for speedy justice: Governor

FAISALABAD, Nov 25 (APP): Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafiq
Rajwana said on Wednesday that bench and bar were an integral part
of judiciary and they could play a pivotal role for providing
speedy justice to the people.
Speaking at the District Bar Association (DBA) here, he said
the government was fully aware of the miseries of the litigants
and would continue its efforts to simplify the relevant laws and
improve the capacity of the prosecutors.
He said that lawyers were the custodian of civilization and
main players for ensuring rule of law in the country and providing
justice to the people.
The governor said that he supported the demand of DBA for
constitution of Lahore High Court Bench in Faisalabad and said
that he would also make recommendations for the early establishment
of LHC bench at Faisalabad.
The governor said that law was a noble profession and he had
pride of being a lawyer. In the law profession the lawyers remain
always as a student and with the law practice he improves his
mental faculties. Bar is his the second home and he is a part
of the bar, he added.
He regretted that with the mushroom growth of law colleges,
the quality of law education had affected severely and these
days the law degrees were simply being distributed.
He said the majority of lawyers working like daily wages employees
and very few lawyers were earning handsome money while the rest are
simply doing labor.
The governor said that there was a need to constitute a lawyers’
trust so as the old and sick lawyers should be benefited through this trust.
Earlier, president DBA Malik Ayub Sialvi said that under the
article 37 of Constitution of Pakistan, it wsa the duty of the state
to provide cheeper and speedy justice to people at their door steps.
Therefore, the demand of the DBA Faisalabad for establishment
of LHC Bench at Faisalabad was just and the government was under
obligation to set up LHC Bench at Faisalabad, he added.
The DBA President also demanded for allocation of land for the
lawyers’ housing society keeping in view of the large increase in
the number of lawyers which has gone from 800 to 3700 at Faisalabad.
The DBA President also demanded release of Rs 75 million grant
of the Punjab government under the lawyers’ welfare fund.
