Barrister Danyal slams KP govt for prioritizing protests over rising militant attacks

RAWALPINDI, Oct 09 (APP):Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Thursday, saying that the provincial leadership was prioritizing political protests over public safety despite a surge in deadly militant attacks targeting law enforcement personnel.
During a press conference at Rawalpindi Press Club, Danyal cited recent violence in the province, including the killing of four customs officers, a police official and an SHO, and condemned the provincial chief executive for participating in long marches rather than addressing law and order or visiting the families of fallen officers.
“Already facing terrorism, the KP province is required to ensure safety of security officials”, he said adding the provincial government instead is arranging sit ins and rallies.
Danyal also questioned that to what extent the provincial government has harmonized its policies with the unanimously adopted national policies against militancy.
Danyal criticized that KP government had not yet come up with the clear stance against recent terrorism acts committed by Finta al Khawarij.
He questioned KP’s 15-year counter-terrorism framework, urged the immediate implementation of the National Action Plan and called for providing police personnel with modern weaponry and protective equipment to neutralize cross-border threats originating from Afghanistan.
Danyal warned that political sit-ins and rallies organized by opposition parties risk heightening domestic instability, disrupting public order and damaging Pakistan’s international image at a time when the country is hosting foreign diplomatic delegations and international sports teams including the visiting Sri Lankan cricket squad.
Danyal highlighted that under the given situation no political party including PPP, ANP could do any political activities.
He called on regional political parties to take a firm stance against administrative negligence and prioritize collective national security over political confrontation.
