Babusar and Karakoram highways closed due to flooding

ISLAMABAD, Aug 04 (APP):National Highway Authority (NHA) on Tuesday closed the Babusar Highway after high level flooding at Thak and suspended traffic on the Karakoram Highway following the overturning of a freight truck near Shing Nala (Goner Farm), disrupting travel to the northern areas and prompting authorities to urge motorists to avoid non essential journeys until both routes are restored.
According to the NHA, the Babusar Highway is completely closed to traffic at Zero Point after floodwaters inundated the road at Thak.
The authority said travellers and tourists have been advised by the district administration to use the Karakoram Highway as an alternative route instead of the Babusar Highway.
However, traffic on the Karakoram Highway is also suspended after a loaded truck overturned near Shing Nala (Goner Farm), blocking the entire roadway.
The closure of the strategic highway resulted in long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road, severely affecting traffic flow.
The NHA said traffic was immediately halted at the Goner Farm check post to prevent additional vehicles from entering the affected section.
District administration officials and rescue teams, equipped with heavy machinery, are carrying out an operation to remove the stranded truck and reopen the highway at the earliest.
The NHA urged all commuters to avoid unnecessary travel until the roads are fully restored and to strictly follow official traffic advisories and instructions issued by the authorities.
