Ayub urges people to pay outstanding dues in power sector for avoiding serious action

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25 (APP):Federal Minister for Energy, Umer Ayub on Thursday urged the general public to pay outstanding dues in power sector for avoiding serious action in days to come.
The Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI), government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Imran Khan was committed to streamline the system in every sector including energy, he stated while talking to a private news channel.
He said that administrative measures and line losses areas have been identified to achieve the objectives.
Those people who are not paying electricity bills, would have to bear the crunch in shape of removing meters from their areas, he said.
We are introducing advance technology to address the issues of high line losses and administrative areas.
An amount of five billion dollars would be required for improving the damaged system, created by previous governments, he said.
Some 900 million dollars have been accumulated to kick start the programe and in this connection, the concerned officials have been directed to launch the programe in LESCO and IESCO, the minister said.
The discussion had been made with Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KPK), concerned officials to streamline the system in PESCO.
Due to the line losses and problems in transmission lines, we had been bearing the burden of 650 billion rupee circular debt in energy sector.
The prime minister Imran Khan had given clear instruction to concerned quarters to avoid passing burden of tariff increase to poor people, he said.
To a question about circular debt of 1200 billion rupee, he said that tariff had been increased besides taking action against the power pilferers and electricity bill evaders, he added.
