Ayesha Raza stresses global support to eradicate polio

ISLAMABAD, Oct 14 (APP): Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq has called for sustained global commitment, stronger partnerships and continued investment in immunisation services to achieve polio eradication while building more resilient health systems.

She made these remarks while participating in a panel discussion at the World Health Summit 2026 in Berlin, where global health leaders explored strategies to maintain political commitment, mobilize resources and strengthen cooperation to eliminate polio, said a press release.

Ayesha Raza Farooq highlighted the critical role of frontline health workers, particularly women, in reaching children and building trust between families and healthcare services.
She noted that frontline workers often served as the first point of contact between communities and health systems, making their contribution essential to ensuring that every child receives life-saving vaccines.
The discussion also examined ways to strengthen immunisation infrastructure and sustain international collaboration amid conflicts, competing global priorities and other challenges affecting public health programmes.
The speakers emphasized that maintaining momentum towards polio eradication required long-term political commitment, reliable funding and coordinated efforts among governments, international partners and local communities.
The session reinforced the importance of protecting progress against polio while strengthening health systems to deliver essential services to vulnerable populations.
