Ayaz stresses enduring importance of newspapers in digital age

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP): Speaker National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Friday emphasized the continued relevance and importance of newspapers in the digital media era, terming them as a reliable source of authentic news, comprehensive analysis and credible information.

In his message on World Newspaper Day, the Speaker said newspapers had historically played a vital role in promoting political, social and constitutional awareness among the people.

He stressed that maintaining a strong connection with newspapers and books was essential for building an informed and enlightened society.

Ayaz Sadiq said the proliferation of fake news and rumours in the age of social media had emerged as a major challenge.

He said that newspapers, through editorial responsibility and verification of information, continued to provide credible and authentic news to the public.

Ayaz Sadiq described free and responsible journalism as a cornerstone of a democratic society, saying Pakistan’s journalist community had consistently upheld the values of freedom of expression and truth.

The Speaker paid tribute to the contributions of journalists, columnists and newspaper workers, describing their services as highly commendable.

He underscored the need to promote the habit of newspaper reading and regular study among the younger generation, saying youth should be encouraged to move beyond superficial information and develop a culture of reading and serious thinking.

Ayaz Sadiq said newspaper reading played a significant role in fostering critical thinking and intellectual maturity among young people.

The Speaker reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to safeguarding freedom of expression and protecting the rights of journalists and workers associated with the newspaper industry.
