ATC acquits 67 accused in 2021 protest cases for lack of evidence

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday acquitted 67 accused for lack of evidence in cases registered during a protest by a religious party in 2021.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 08 (APP): An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday acquitted 67 accused for lack of evidence in cases registered during a protest by a religious party in 2021.
ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain announced the verdict after hearing arguments from the defence lawyers, who contended that the accused had been charged with assault and damaging government property, but the prosecution failed to produce evidence to substantiate the allegations.
The court, after hearing the arguments, acquitted 67 accused due to lack of evidence.
Meanwhile, the court initiated proceedings to declare the accused who remained continuously absent despite summons as proclaimed offenders.
The cases had been registered at Shahzad Town Police Station.
