ISLAMABAD, Mar 06 (APP):Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak on Wednesday informed the Senate that the entire nation showed an exemplary unity against the Indian aggression.
Winding up debate on adjournment motions, the minister said the threat still loomed, but the valiant armed forces of Pakistan were fully ready to foil any attempt of aggression from the enemy.
Sharing details about the detection an Indian submarine by the Pakistan Navy in Pakistani waters and then compelling it to flee, the minister said there were three regions in the sea. The first region spreading over twelve nautical miles called the sovereign region, on whose violation Pakistan was rightful to take action.
The second one spreading over twenty-four nautical miles called contagious water zone and the third was intensive economic zone of over 224 nautical miles.“The Indian Submarine had entered ninety kilometers inside the intensive economic zone. It was detected and compelled to go in deep water,” the minister said.
Khattak praised the swift response from the Pakistan Navy terming it a milestone achievement which would be remembered in the country’s history.
He said surveillance still continued in the sea. The Pakistan Navy was on high alert with the instructions to take action if the same misadventure was repeated, he added.
He said today the country was in safe hands. India had been taught a lesson and it would not repeat the mistake as its any misadventure would be retaliated with full force.
Earlier Sherry Rahman said the Kashmir issue had been highlighted internationally due to Indian actions. The government should pursue an effective diplomacy to highlight Indian atrocities in the occupied Kashmir as well as its aggression against Pakistan, she added.
Javed Abbasi said Pakistan sent a message of peace not just to India but to the whole world but the Indian response to Pakistan’s gesture was not encouraging.
Sassui Palijo requested for an in-camera briefing to the senators on the ongoing situation between India and Pakistan.
Raza Rabbani said India was following the footsteps of Israel and wanted to make Kashmir another Palestine.
He requested the Senate chairman to constitute a joint committee of both the houses of parliament to review the foreign policy.
Pervez Rasheed stressed on taking up the issue of Indian aggression and atrocities in occupied Kashmir in UN Security Council, the Council of Commonwealth and OIC through an effective diplomacy.
General (Rtd) Abdul Qayyum said the world had pressured Pakistan to do more against terrorists but closed their eyes towards the Indian extremist government.
