Anusha for more steps to ensure ICT benefits for women

ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP): Minister of State for Information
Technology and Telecommunications, Anusha Rahman on Wednesday
emphasized that in this age of innovation and technological
advancement steps should be taken to ensure ICT benefits for women.
At an inaugural ceremony of a newly constructed Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) Block in Lahore College for
Women University, she asked university administration to
introduce courses for non-IT students as Information Technology
(IT) plays a pivotal role in every sphere of life.
The Minister said with addition of an exclusive state-of-the-art
ICT block in the university, the girls students would be having
a technical learning in an institutional environment.
Anusha Rahman emphasized that alongwith students of
IT department, the students of other departments would also
take advantage of this opportunity by taking base IT & computer
courses. The Minister expressed the hope that this new ICT Block
would not only be a center of excellence in ICTs but also work as
an incubation centre for young entrepreneurs.
This phenomenon will lead to women empowerment, she continued.
She also advised to make this ICT Block a center of
high quality research and innovations at par with international
standard and in this regard, university administration may seek
help from the private sector.Public-Private Partnership would be a best option to achieve
this goal, the Minister added.”We are working on special project of “ICT for girls where
we want to establish computer labs for girls of unserved/underserved
areas and teach them coding, so that they could earn an honorable
livelihood,” she said. Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi
highlighted contribution of the institution in empowerment of
women through education and expressed her resolve to open
doors of IT and modern knowledge for young women who will be
able to become entrepreneurs and contributors to knowledge based
economy of the country.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO), National ICT R&D Fund,
Asif Roomi was also present on the occasion.
