ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (APP):Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam, on Saturday formally launched the ‘Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bachao Tehreek’ at a large public rally in Peshawar, saying the province’s people wanted peace, an end to terrorism and development.
Addressing the rally, Amir Muqam who is also President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said the province had been paralyzed for two and a half months due to political marches and protests.
He said thousands of people attended the rally at short notice despite the suspension of internet services, describing the turnout as a demonstration of their support for Pakistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PML-N leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Criticizing the provincial leadership, he alleged that political activities and fundraising in the name of marches had disrupted public life, while the province continued to face security challenges.
He said security personnel and civilians were losing their lives in terrorist incidents, but the provincial leadership was not giving due attention to the issue.
Amir Muqam said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had endured difficulties for 13 years and now wanted peace, the elimination of terrorism and development. He added that Pashtuns loved Pakistan and had made great sacrifices for the country.
He asserted that the time had come for the people to reject the existing political leadership, saying the province’s future lay in peace, stability and development.
The minister said the large turnout reflected the public’s support for Pakistan and its armed forces, adding that the response to the rally would demonstrate the strength of the movement.
