ISLAMABAD, May 31 (APP):Adviser to Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam Friday welcome Japenese assistance for setting up early disaster warning and air quality monitoring systems.
Japanese Ambassador Kuninori Matsuda during a meeting with the Adviser here appreciated the initiatives taken by the incumbent government to mitigate climate change risk in the region, a press release said.
He extended the Japanese support for environmental conservation and disaster resilience of the country. He also told the Adviser that Japan would ask its three of the leading car manufacturers to take interest in the electric cars’ industry of Pakistan.
Ambassador Matsuda said, “Japanese forest experts have vast experience in restoration of green cover and could help in training their Pakistani counterparts to gain expertise in this field.”
He also offered training, setting up of academy, seminars and workshops for the capacity building of Pakistan experts for disaster management.
The adviser briefed the Japanese envoy on Green Youth Movement a training programme on climate change. “The present government is well aware of climate change impacts and has scaled up efforts to meet its challenges. It is one of the most vulnerable countries due to climate change and ambient pollution especially in Lahore has grown a serious issue in the past few years,” he added.
Amin added that this was the reason that Prime Minister had directed to formulate policy to set up electric car industry in order to mitigate air pollution which was near completion. “In the coming years electricity supply has been expected to increase whereas traditional automobiles’ production units are also less in number which will help create encouraging environment for the promotion of electric car industry.
