Aitzaz's allegations on banners baseless: Zafar Ullah

ISLAMABAD, Jul 12 (APP): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Barrister Zafar Ullah Khan Tuesday termed the allegations of Aitzaz Ahsan against the government regarding displaying banners of Chief of Army Staff
(COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif ‘baseless’.

He said it was a wrong perception that the federal government had  displayed banners of Gen Raheel Sharif and was doing politics on this  issue. It was a baseless allegation against the government, he said  while talking to a private news channel.

He said the Prime Minister would decide about the extension in Gen  Raheel Sharif’s service. However, the COAS had already stated that he  did not want extension in his service, he added.

Barrister Zafar Ullah said some parties were displaying the
banners for their personal interest.

He lauded the steps of Gen Raheel Sharif for elimination of
terrorism from the country. He (Raheel) also supported democracy, he added.

Replying to a question, he said both the civilian government and  the military leadership were jointly fighting terrorism and their  efforts were bearing fruit.

He said peace had been restored in Karachi due to the ongoing  operation against criminals, target killers and extortionists.
