ISLAMABAD, Dec 7 (APP):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) organized it’s Punjab chapter Convocation 2025, at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal Complex in Lahore, where 480 Degrees were awarded to male and female graduates, while 90 high-achieving students received gold, silver, and bronze medals.
Addressing the ceremony, AIOU, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr Nasir Mahmood said that the number of students enrolled in Punjab this year has exceeded upto 500,000, including 280,000 female students, an encouraging reflection of the university’s commitment to promote women’s education, said a press release on Sunday.
He added that the university had fully waived the fees of 10,000 deserving students belonging to flood-affected areas of Punjab.
The Vice Chancellor further stated that through short-term technology and skill-based courses offered under the University’s Lifelong Learning Centre, students are being equipped with practical competencies.
He said AIOU has always prioritised the inclusion of marginalised and underprivileged communities in the national mainstream. As a result, students from Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, and the merged districts are provided free matric education, while scholarships are awarded to transgender persons, persons with disabilities, children of martyrs, and prisoners.
Women prisoners whose young children reside with them in jail are also provided education by the university.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities, Prof. Dr Abdul Aziz Sahir said that the world has now fully recognised the importance of distance learning. This is why, over the past 50 years, five million students have graduated from AIOU. Owing to this mode of learning, the light of education has reached every household in Pakistan.
A large number of parents attended the convocation alongside the graduating students.
