ISLAMABAD, Sep 27 (APP): Managing Director (MD) Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Aftab-ur-Rehman Rana has said that technology and artificial intelligence (AI) offer new and promising avenues for promoting Pakistan’s tourism potential, particularly by engaging the country’s youth in innovative ways.
Talking to APP on the occasion of World Tourism Day, he said Pakistan is blessed with some of the world’s most beautiful natural landscapes as well as a rich historical and cultural heritage, offering enormous opportunities for the development and promotion of tourism.
He said this year’s World Tourism Day theme, focusing on tourism and technology through artificial intelligence, highlighted the importance of embracing new technologies to transform the tourism sector.
Aftab-ur-Rehman Rana said PTDC is working with all stakeholders of the tourism industry and organizing various activities in connection with World Tourism Day.
Special attention was being given to Pakistan’s youth and programmes are being introduced to encourage them to use AI and modern technology for promoting tourism.
He said the objective is not only to showcase Pakistan’s tourism destinations through digital platforms but also to create new opportunities for young people to contribute to the sector through technology and innovation.
The PTDC Managing Director said sustainable and responsible tourism remained a key priority of the organization. “Our priority is to promote sustainable and responsible tourism in Pakistan, and we are working actively with all stakeholders towards this objective,” he added.
He said the use of technology and AI could help present Pakistan’s diverse tourism attractions to a wider global audience while supporting efforts for sustainable tourism development.
World Tourism Day is observed annually on September 27 to highlight the importance of tourism and its cultural, social and economic contribution.
