ISLAMABAD, July 11 (APP): Minister for Planning, Development and  Reforms Chaudhry Ahsan Iqbal on Monday said Abdul Sattar Edhi was a gift of Almighty Allah for Pakistan and he would request the Prime Minister to institute a medal after him.

“Edhi was a gift of the Almighty. He can be a brand ambassador for  the whole world. I shall request the Prime Minister to institute a new national award after him,” he said in a private news channel programme.

“Such an award should be given to those who will perform exemplary services for the humanity in different walks of life,” he added.

He said people like Sattar Edhi were born once in centuries and  “his services provide us a platform to make the international community believe that Islam is a religion of peace and serving the humanity. His services provide us a pedestal to counter misconceptions about Islam and highlight its true lesson of brotherhood, love and compassion.”

Ahsan said Edhi was a true Muslim who upheld the teachings of Islam about serving the humanity and devoted his whole life for the welfare of poor, orphans, widows and destitute.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader Dr Arif Alvi said Edhi’s services  were a guiding force for all. “We should learn a lesson from him.

Issuing commemorating stamps or naming airports after him can be a  service to him but real service to him will be that we continue his mission as a nation.”

Renowned lawyer Asma Jehangir pleaded to announce an award for  Edhi and learn a lesson from his devotion and commitment.
