Aggressive military doctrine may disturb balance of power; President Mamnoon

ISLAMABAD, Dec 2 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain Wednesday
said aggressive military doctrine in the region has led to increased
import of high-tech defense equipment, which may disturb the
existing balance of power.
The President said in this context improvement of economy and
strengthening of Pakistan’s defence capabilities were need of the
hour as it would help the country address its internal and external
challenges.
The President while inaugurating the two-day Seminar on
Public-Private Partnership in the Defence Production and Export
organized here by the Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO).
Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, Director
General Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO) Maj. Gen. Agha
Masood Akram and Executive Director Centre for International
Strategic Studies (CISS) Ali Sarwar Naqvi also addressed the
seminar.
The President said defense products of Pakistan were of
international quality but due to lack of marketing and other
problems the volume of exports was not at par with its actual
potential.
He said the public sector should adopt new ideas and
entrepreneurship and benefit from experiences of the private sector.
President Mamnoon said private sector investment in different
sectors of defence production should be encouraged and in this
Turkey’s experiences in this area may be followed.
He hoped the seminar would propose concrete recommendations
for enhancing defense exports by exploring the possibilities of
public-private partnership.
Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain said
Pakistan has achieved significant progress in defence production. He
said the purpose of the seminar was to formulate solid
recommendations by exploring avenues for public-private partnership
and devise effective policies in this regard.
