ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (APP):The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Aga Khan University (AKU) are exploring plans to establish a world-class teaching and tertiary care hospital in Islamabad, aimed at strengthening the capital’s healthcare and medical education infrastructure.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, and President of Aga Khan University, Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, along with Chairman of the Aga Khan Board of Trustees, Zakir Mahmood, and other senior members, held at CDA Headquarters on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Dr Shahabuddin expressed the university’s strong interest in setting up an integrated teaching and research hospital equipped with international-standard facilities.

He said the project would help promote high-quality medical education and deliver better healthcare services to the people of Islamabad.
It was agreed that CDA would consider various options for allocating a prime and easily accessible site for the establishment of the Aga Khan University Teaching Hospital.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa assured full institutional support for the initiative, terming it a “significant milestone in the field of healthcare and medical education in Islamabad.”
He added that the proposed hospital would benefit not only residents of the twin cities but also patients from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“Providing the best facilities to the citizens of Islamabad is among our top priorities,” Randhawa said. “We are working on multiple projects to ensure the capital is developed along modern, clean, and green lines, with improved access to essential services such as healthcare.”
The Aga Khan University, internationally recognized for its medical education and healthcare network, currently operates major hospitals in Karachi and Nairobi.
The establishment of its teaching hospital in Islamabad is expected to enhance research collaboration, attract skilled medical professionals, and expand access to quality treatment in northern Pakistan.
