ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (APP): Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi Monday taken notice of a viral video showing a visually impaired porter at Jacobabad Railway Station and announced immediate relief measures for the affected family.
The porter, Akbar Ali Jamali, who has been carrying passengers’ luggage for years with the assistance of his minor daughter, had appealed for help in the video that circulated widely on social media.
Responding to the appeal, the minister approved the request and announced that Jamali’s son would be provided employment in Pakistan Railways, said a news release.
The minister also announced that he would meet Akbar Ali Jamali at the Ministry of Railways to personally hear his concerns and ensure follow-up on the assistance promised.
In addition, Hanif Abbasi pledged financial support from his own pocket to facilitate the possible medical treatment of the visually impaired porter.
Emphasising the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, the minister said the state stands with hardworking labourers and that further steps would be taken to strengthen welfare measures for employees and daily wage earners.
