ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (APP):The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has set up six Ramazan bazaars across Islamabad to provide essential food items at official rates.
The district administration said vegetables, fruit, chicken, eggs, sugar, ghee and grocery items will be available under the government rate list, with price checks and daily monitoring in place.
The move aims to support residents during the holy month by making daily-use items available at rates set by the government.
According to the administration, the Ramazan bazaars have been established in Tarnol, H-9, Bari Imam (Barah Kahu), G-6, G-11 and Pakistan Town. These locations were selected to cover major population areas so that residents can access markets without long travel.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Memon visited all six Ramazan bazaars to review arrangements and issued directions to field officers to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential items. During the visits, he inspected stalls selling vegetables, fruit, eggs, chicken and grocery goods. He also reviewed the stock and quality of sugar, ghee and other daily-use items.
The deputy commissioner directed that all items must be sold strictly according to the official rate list. He said that no vendor would be allowed to charge above the notified prices. Clear display of rate lists at each stall was made mandatory so that buyers can check prices before making purchases.
The administration stated that price control magistrates will remain present at the bazaars throughout the day. Their duty will include checking prices, monitoring supplies and addressing complaints on the spot. Security arrangements, cleanliness and parking facilities were also reviewed during the inspections to ensure smooth movement of shoppers.
Officials said that assistant commissioners have been instructed to submit daily reports on the functioning of Ramzan Bazaars. These reports will cover price compliance, availability of items, cleanliness conditions and any public complaints received during the day. The reports will be reviewed to take timely action where needed.
The deputy commissioner emphasized that the supply of essential food items must be ensured at all times, especially during peak shopping hours. He instructed relevant departments to maintain coordination so that shortages do not occur during Ramazan.
Citizens were advised to purchase items only according to the displayed rate lists. The administration requested buyers to remain vigilant and check prices before payment. In case of overcharging or any other issue, residents were asked to immediately contact the price control magistrates present at the bazaars.
The district administration also appealed to citizens to cooperate with officials by reporting violations instead of engaging in arguments with vendors. Complaints received on the spot will be addressed without delay, officials said.
The administration reaffirmed that strict action will be taken against those found involved in overcharging or violating price regulations. Officials said inspections will continue throughout the holy month to ensure that Ramazan Bazaars serve their intended purpose of providing relief to the public.
