44 trade officers posted in different countries for promotion of Pakistan’s exports: Swati

ISLAMABAD, Jan 21 (APP):Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan Swati Tuesday told the Senate that 44 trade and investment officers were working in different countries and more to be deputed in a bid to promote Pakistan’s exports.
Replying to a question of Senator Talha Mahmood during the Question Hour, he said Ministry of Commerce had completed the selection process and 44 positions of trade and investment officers had been filled against 57 posts.
He said ten positions would fall vacant in 2020 as officers currently serving would complete their tenure and post replacement would be made by June this year 2020 after completing selection.
He said there was no such proposal under consideration of the government to appoint prominent Pakistani businessmen as commercial counselors in different countries.
However, as per policy for trade and investment officers, 2019 approved by the prime minister, 20 percent quota had been reserved for Pakistani diaspora.
Those officers whose performance would not be upto the mark would be called back, he added.
