41st death anniversary of Dr Nazir Ahmad observed

ISLAMABAD, Aug 04 (APP):The 41st death anniversary of renowned zoologist and educationist Dr Nazir Ahmad was observed on Tuesday.

Dr Nazir Ahmad was born on December 5, 1904 at Haveli Barood Khana and passed away on August 4, 1985. He lost his father at a young age, but under his mother’s guidance he went on to achieve distinction in scholarship and research. His younger brothers included Dr Syed Ahmad and noted musician Ustad Moti Shah, whose real name was Zahoor Shah.

Dr Nazir Ahmad earned his early degree from the University of Calcutta and later secured a PhD and postdoctoral qualification in Britain, carrying out research at Imperial College London and the University of Cambridge. His research focused on controlling crop pests and made a significant contribution to improving cotton production in Pakistan.

He served as principal of Government College Jhang and later headed the Department of Zoology at Government College Lahore, before being appointed principal of the institution in 1959. His tenure was marked by academic progress and strong administrative traditions, along with a keen focus on the moral training of students.

Academic and educational circles paid rich tributes to Dr Nazir Ahmad on his death anniversary, remembering his lasting contributions to zoology, agricultural research and higher education in Pakistan.
