392,000-square-meter shading project, 6,000 misting poles cool holy sites during Hajj

ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP):Kidana Development Company is implementing more than 25 environmental and infrastructure projects across the holy sites to improve pilgrims’ comfort during the Hajj 1447 AH season through major cooling, shading and pedestrian development initiatives.
According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the projects are being carried out by Kidana, the executive arm of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites, as part of a comprehensive transformation aimed at improving the overall Hajj experience.
The report said one of the most prominent projects includes the first-ever cooling and shading project around Jabal Al-Rahmah covering more than 392,000 square meters.

Authorities also completed pedestrian shading projects in Mina covering more than 103,000 square meters across two phases to help pilgrims move safely and comfortably during extreme temperatures.
SPA told APP that Kidana strengthened cooling systems across the holy sites through the installation of more than 6,000 misting poles distributed at five major stations with a cooling capacity reaching 1,500 cubic meters per hour.
The report said more than 25,000 drinking water taps have also been installed to support pilgrims during the Hajj season.
Authorities further replaced traditional misting poles with 400 modern misting fans at the eastern and western courtyards of the Jamarat facility to improve cooling efficiency and pedestrian comfort.
The Green Holy Sites initiative also continues environmental improvement efforts through large-scale greening and landscaping projects aimed at reducing heat and improving air quality around the pilgrimage sites.
According to SPA, the projects form part of broader efforts to improve environmental sustainability, crowd movement and operational efficiency across the holy sites during Hajj.
