3.6 lakh IIOJK homes still await tap water connections

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):Despite official claims of significant progress under the tap water mission, more than 3.61 lakh households in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have yet to receive functional connections, authorities acknowledged in the Legislative Assembly.
           According to Kashmir Media Service, responding to a starred question raised by MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Minister for the Jal Shakti Department Javed Ahmad Rana informed the House that of the total 19,25,535 households in the territory, 15,64,171 have been provided with tap water connections, while 3,61,364 households are still without coverage.
            The district-wise data tabled in the House shows a wide variation in coverage across districts.
Jammu district has the highest number of uncovered households at 62,950 out of 1,89,120 total households, with 1,26,170 already covered.
         Rajouri follows with 44,759 households without connections out of 1,35,612 total households, while Kathua has 35,064 uncovered households out of 1,39,436.
     Kupwara has 27,159 uncovered households out of 1,56,823, and Doda has 26,757 households without tap water connections out of 1,27,430. Samba has 23,648 uncovered households out of 78,297, while Poonch has 22,077 out of 1,07,048. Udhampur accounts for 20,589 uncovered households out of 99,809.
            In Baramulla, 16,706 households remain uncovered out of 1,46,181 total households. Budgam has 13,764 uncovered households out of 1,27,895. Kishtwar has 13,893 uncovered households out of 57,116, while Ramban has 12,088 out of 60,784.
           Pulwama has 11,530 uncovered households out of 82,257, and Anantnag has 9,399 out of 1,32,915 and Reasi has 7,210 uncovered households out of 79,754, Kulgam 5,514 out of 61,138, Bandipora 4,785 out of 46,337, and Shopian 3,472 out of 45,625.
